New Zion Missionary Baptist Church

Church History
The New Zion Baptist Church was organized in 1885, but only the history is known from 1887. Therefore, we celebrate its existence from that year.
During the year 1887, Rev. N. Weaver was pastor and G.W. Gross was church clerk. Some of the deacons were: R.L. Lee, Dan Fisher, 0. Miles, Jack Malone, Henry Walker and Jim Brown.
From 1887 until 1890 the church was located in Geneva, Texas which is now Elm Mott, Texas. The church had to be moved from its original location. Therefore, on the fourth Sunday in April in 1890, a committee consisting of R.L. Lee, Dan Fisher, G.W. Gross, D.M. Middleton, Ike Sparks, Henry Walker, and Jim Brown was organized to find a new location for the church. The committee selected two locations for the church. The first location was from
E.M. Long and the second location was from T.I. Renfro. The land was purchased from Mr. T.I. Renfro, in the summer of 1890, the New Zion Baptist was moved to its present site.
The church building still stands today as a worshiping monument for present and future generations. However, it has had many renovations and additions.
